Why the Pretty White Girl YA Book Cover Trend Needs to End

A great post by Ellen Oh on the racial problems with YA Book Covers.  Timely if you’re also aware of all the racial comments circling around Rue, Thresh, & Cinna in the Hunger Games movie.

I wish I could say that I think my future children will be represented in the books I read to them someday or the movies they’ll watch.  But I don’t know of too many books written about part white, hawaiian, filipino kids living anywhere, really.  And, usually when they’re written the covers or characters look white with a tan.  I guess its hard to draw Hapa kids apparently.
